Last Monday, Mickie James made the biggest statement since her return to WWE action, coming out to the ring and standing face to face with the reigning Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka.
Amid an interview with Charly Caruso, The Empress touted that she is ready for any challenge. Enter James, who from the day she returned said aloud that she had gold in her sights.
Before the two could speak much further, Natalya and Lana entered the picture. A match between James and the Ravishing Russian took place soon after, with the six-time Women’s Champion making short work of her opposition.
“I had to send a message tonight, and I hope it was heard loud and clear - the fun and games are over,” said James, who also celebrated her birthday on Monday. “Lana and Natalya want to be a thorn in my side? Fine. I’ll pluck’em and chuck’em en route to a showdown with Asuka.”
The potential match between James and Asuka is certainly one the WWE Universe is salivating over. After all, the two famously met at NXT TakeOver: Toronto back in 2016, which was James’ first match in a WWE arena in several years.
“I’ll admit it, I got beat fair and square that night,” James says, recalling the match vividly. “The thing is, back then, I didn’t know a heck of a lot about Asuka. Now, she’s become a household name & arguably one of the most respect WWE Womens champions of all time. I can - and will beat her if given the chance.
“In short, I have never been MORE ready for Asuka.”
